Foiling, or foil blocking, is a classic option that is especially well suited to our custom leather and non-leather products. Foil blocking uses a thin film covered in a heat transfer foil is impressed against the book, transferring the foil to the cover. As the heat does a lot of the work, the impression is not as deep as with debossing.

The cold foil is a metallic, mostly silver shiny foil that is applied partially or full-surface with an offset plate and glue and acts as an additional colour. The possibility to print with four-colours or to overprint with a special colour produces completely new metallic colour tones. Out of experience, we know that a silver cold foil can be transformed into a gold colour by overprinting it with a yellow tone.
